Trendy Tuesday- Silly Bandz

  It's Trendy Tuesday!

Have you ever spent money on an item (or series of items) that you now regret buying? What about a deal that you have made on a fad, that you wish you never closed? I believe that a great example of a trend that fell out of popularity is a product that was launched in November of 2008.  That year began the reign...of The Silly Bandz.

Silly Bandz are colorful rubber bands that, when tension is removed, form the shape of an animal, letter of the alphabet, symbol, or other fun configurations. Silly Bandz were also designed to be worn as "fashionable" bracelets, even though they sometimes looked goofy.

To a kid who REALLY knows his Silly Bandz, the ones with multiple colors on one band was pretty valuable. The glow-in-the-dark bracelets were also envied. Some shapes of Silly Bandz were wanted more than others. So, the clever kids traded Silly Bandz, and ended up having tons of them. The one who had the most Silly Bandz was definitely the coolest kid around!
But, Silly Bandz were not just for children. Every now and then, you might come across an adult wearing Silly Bandz.

After the immediate success of the Silly Bandz, a new product hit the market: the Silly Ringz!

So, as you can see, the Silly Bandz franchise was a smash hit. The question remains: Why were Silly Bandz so cool? Like many odd trends, the product was marketed extremely well. Though it seemed like such a strange fashion, the Silly Bandz were explosive.
Now that the Silly Bandz are not the “in thing” anymore, purchasers probably regret their investments in such a quick fad. Silly Bandz left us something to smile about, whenever we remember the past trend. Were you crazy about Silly Bandz? How many did you have? Please comment below and let us know! Thanks, everyone! -Sebastian
